Product Description
The perfect training treat! If training is on your agenda then sometimes small is better. A large parrot will want to do more training tricks if the prize is smaller so it can get as many as it can. As for the little guys a nice afternoon treat may be in order. Whatever the reason this seemingly small treasure has the benefit of being soft and easily broken allowing small and large parrots alike to enjoy its pleasurable taste. Low in dietary negatives the sunflower seed is the ultimate in parrot resources.
Bird Size: Small
Large Feeding Guide Nuts and seeds contain many high-value nutrients essential for parrots but they're also full of fat and should be supplied in small quantities.
Please reference a species-specific book or something similar to determine the most suitable quantity for your bird. As a general rule though small birds don't need more than a lightly heaped teaspoon per day.
The larger parrots only need a small handful (approx. 5-6 large nuts in shell) per day and species such as the large macaws need a regular sized handful (about 7-9 large nuts in shell). Aviary breeding birds can receive more with some species like macaws responding very favourably to comparatively high quantities.
- Storage Guide Nuts should be kept cool and dry to prevent them going rancid or getting weevil infestations.
- It is best to store them below 21 degrees C in an airtight bag or container.
- Refrigerate or freeze in well-sealed moisture-proof containers or bags to significantly extend shelf life.
- The lower the temperature the longer the shelf life will be.
- In a pantry cupboard hulled nuts will last for a few weeks or nuts in shell will last up to three months.
- In the fridge they can be kept for 6 months or more, in a freezer they can be kept for a year or more.

My girl is learning to try new foods and if given both these white sunflower seed or the black striped sunflower she would pick the black striped one. But she is getting use to these slowly.
