SS Wire (by the metre)
Spurred by the toy-making seminar we held at our recent open day, we are finally getting our stainless steel wire up on the website for all you toymakers out there. We love our stainless steel wire. Very much. Its just super as a base for toys. Its strong; its stiff, its not too expensive (compared to most stainless steel stuff) and its skinny, which opens up so many opportunities for the beads and materials you can use with it. Wire is the best stringing material for the birds who like to use their beaks as scissors, and because this stuff is stainless steel you dont need to worry about heavy metal poisoning.
If you use pliers to cut this wire you need to file the ends because the pliers cut by pinching the wire leaving a nasty sharp point. We recommend you either use good quality wire cutters (which slice the wire straight across). The thicker the wire the tougher it is to bend and the tougher your tools need to be.
Easy to manipulate (though still far tougher than any other wire of similar diameter). You can safely use the lowest quality or smallest pliers you have with this wire. This wire is not generally suitable for larger birds (eg galah size & up), especially if they have a tendency to cut or wrench their toys.
Not for the light-hearted, you need strong hands and wrists to bend (or straighten) this wire. Small and cheap pliers may break under this wire's attention. Providing the toy isn't too heavy this wire is suitable for most large bird toys.
Very difficult to shape with even the best and largest pliers but this wire is able to support large and heavy toys and is the best choice for big birds with hefty beak strength.
Sold by the metre, our stainless steel wire is shipped to you tied in a loose coil.
