GST (10% sales tax) only applies to Australian customers.
The default setting for prices on this website are GST inclusive.
However, once you have registered or logged in as an international customer the prices will be shown without the GST added.
The shopping cart will separate the base price from the GST in its calculations for Australian tax purposes.
Choosing a Currency
You can select the currency you use from a drop down box located on the left menu bar. The default currency is Australian Dollars, but we have a few different ones available.
Registering
Registering involves providing your name, shipping address and email address. This information is needed to calculate GST and shipping costs as you add things to the shopping cart, and of course if you purchase from us we use the information to get your goodies to you! The information you provide is kept on our secure database, so if in the future you come back to make another purchase, you don’t need to re-enter your details. Registering also allows you to do your shopping over many days – the cart will remember what you’ve put in it.
You do not need to register unless you want to go through checkout.
Browsing
The left column of our web site displays the navigation panel for our products (as opposed to the buttons along the top of the screen, which are for general information). Our stock is organized by product type, and some categories are then sub-divided into sizes. Any items we felt crossed the size barrier will be listed under small and medium birds, or medium and large birds etc. You can also view all the products for that category by clicking on the category title.
Searching for Something Specific
If you’re after a particular toy, there is a search box located at the top right of the website. When you type in a word, the search engine will search all product titles and descriptions for that word. You can type in more than one word, however it will broaden rather than a narrow your search unless your write an ‘and’ between the words. You will find that the search button can be used to a wonderful effect, if you’re after a certain brand of toy, or a quality like “long and lasting”, or even a certain component like “wiffle” ball.
Please note: the search box does not look through the text on the information pages.
Adding Items to Your Shopping Cart
If you want to purchase an item, simply click the “Add to Basket” button. There is a box beside the 'Add to Basket' button where you can adjust quantities if you would like to purchase more than one.
To save you time and frustration we’ve made it so that by clicking the “Add to Basket” button you are not taken to the shopping cart. If, at any time you wish to see what is in your trolley, click the bright orange “View Basket” button, found at the top of the menu bar on the left hand side of your screen.
When viewing the products in your shopping cart, you can remove items simply by clicking the red cross beside the product picture. You can also adjust quantities by entering in the details and clicking the “update basket” button found at the bottom left of the page.
To exit from the shopping cart simply choose an option from the left side of the screen or press ‘back’ on your browser.
Going Through Checkout
When you are ready to make your purchase, go to the shopping cart (click the orange "View Basket" button), scroll down to the bottom of your list of items and click “Continue”.
If you haven’t registered or logged in to our website yet, you will be asked to do so.
When your details have been entered you will be taken back to the "View Basket" screen where you can also have another look at your order and make adjustments if you want to.
Clicking continue will allow you to enter a separate delivery address from the billing address.
Now that that the delivery address has been confirmed, clicking continue again will add a box at the bottom of the screen, if you scroll down you can see how much your order weighs and select your postage options by clicking on the drop down box and selecting your preferred postage. If you don’t like what you see you are able to go back to previous screens to adjust your order.
Hitting continue will take you the Payment Options part of the website. Here you are also able to add comments or requests. e.g. ask for a particular colour combination, or state that you are posting a cheque.
You do not need to sign up with PayPal to make a payment with your credit card. In the left hand box is the button to press if you have a PayPal Account otherwise the right hand box contains the button to press if you want to use you credit card as normal. If you select the PayPal (credit card) option you will be sent to the PayPal website to process the order. Following that you will be returned to the My Parrot Shop website. Paypal will send you an email confirming your purchase including details of the items you purchased. We will endeavour to post your items out by the next business day and will include a detailed invoice in the package.
If you select the "Bank Transfer or Cheque" option, an order form will be displayed for you to print out for your own records. We will have received the order and will await your payment via bank transfer or cheque/money order in the post. More about Bank Transfers, Cheques, and Money Orders here.
