AAN Product Review
Australian Animal Nutrition – Product Review
Nicole, an Avian Veterinary Nurse and the proprietor of Bird Boarding in
Coburg , Victoria , has been using the AAN products since late 2006. Nicole has been most impressed with the excellent quality of these diets and now uses AAN bird food as the base diet for the broad range of species boarding with her. These are some of the observations she has made:
“I have worked with an extensive range of commercially prepared avian diets over the years and none offer better value for money. I was delighted to find how readily accepted the diets were when trialling them (the omegas 3 & 6 and peanut flavour make the products highly palatable), and the excellent body condition and vibrant plumage that resulted was obvious. To encourage good demeanour AAN diets have similar energy levels in the large and small parrot blends because large birds, compared to small sprightly ones like budgies, are far less active in captivity. This is one example of the many considerations made by the food's designer that make it superior to other diets marketed. Another benefit to me, as someone who gives guidance on appropriate diets for particular species, is having the variances of fat and protein levels of the maintenance and breeder pellets to work with. Although we commonly see malnourished birds that are obese, occasionally we meet birds that require all the benefits that a pelleted diet offers but cannot afford the steep reduction in fat. With the two pellets I now also have the means to feed my 1.2kg Green-winged macaw a diet richer in protein then my 90g White-faced cockatiel who is sensitive to protein. Having to feed 20 to 40 companion parrots a day I certainly notice the advantages in using a diet with no wastage or mess and that is as affordable as most of the grain diets available.”
